Dental Veneers for an Awesome Smile!
If you’ve seen Hollywood actors flashing too-good-to-be-true smiles, you’ve almost certainly seen dental veneers in action. Not everyone wants or needs that kind of smile, but dental veneers can give the smile you’ve always dreamed of. And J. Wesley Anderson, Jr., DDS in Virginia Beach, VA can expertly design and place the dental veneers that will give a smile you’ll love to show off.
About Dental Veneers
Veneers are thin pieces of porcelain that are cemented to the fronts of your teeth. The thinness of the porcelain allows the light to reflect with a certain depth, just like your own teeth. Veneers can be tinted to match the shade of your existing teeth, so you can cover imperfections in one or two teeth, or choose to have a completely new and dazzling smile.
Dental veneers can conceal a host of problems with your smile. They can cover chips, cracks, stains, discolorations, and misshapen teeth. Veneers can also be used to conceal small gaps between teeth and to make teeth appear longer.
Types of Veneers
Dr. Anderson, a highly regarded cosmetic dentist, offers two types of dental veneers: traditional porcelain veneers, and Lumineers. Regardless of the type of veneer, a good deal of cosmetic dentistry skill is required to achieve an outstanding result.
Traditional porcelain veneers are very durable and will last a very long time. Some prep work is required on the teeth before the veneers can be placed, which makes the process slightly longer. Several sessions may be required.
Lumineers are extremely thin veneers (about the thinness of a contact lens) that require minimal tooth preparation. Despite their thinness, Lumineers can last up to 20 years while giving you a beautiful smile.
Lumineers can generally be placed in two sessions which is a consideration for time-pressured people.
You and Dr. Anderson will decide which type of veneers are best for your needs.
A Healthy Smile is the Foundation of a Beautiful Smile
Dental veneers do a marvelous job of covering up imperfections, but some tooth imperfections can threaten the health of the tooth. Dr. Anderson also provides a combination of restorative and cosmetic dentistry to preserve the life and health of your teeth while making them look great.
Silver amalgam fillings were the standard for many years. Today, many people are worried about the possibility of mercury leaching out of the fillings and affecting their health. At J. Wesley Anderson, DDS, we use only tooth-colored composite resin fillings. You can preserve the structure and function of your teeth and beautify your smile when you replace amalgam fillings with tooth-colored fillings.
A tooth that is damaged due to accident or decay can often be saved. By placing a natural-looking dental crown over the tooth, both the structure and function of the tooth is preserved. Dental crowns can also be used for cosmetic reasons to cover an unsightly tooth.
Dr. Anderson offers CEREC technology in our Virginia Beach, VA office. With CEREC, you can have a crown created and placed in a single session! Dr. Anderson will prepare your tooth, take a digital impression, and you can watch as a computerized mill creates your lifelike dental crown! For your convenience, and to blend seamlessly with your smile, we offer these options in dental crowns:
- Porcelain fused to metal
- Beautiful, durable e.max
Dental Bridges and Dental Implants
Veneers will hide almost any superficial imperfection in your teeth, but they won’t hide the gaps left by missing teeth.
In addition to being unsightly, missing teeth can have negative effects on your diet, your health, and your wellbeing. When teeth are missing on one side, there’s a tendency to chew on the other side. This stressed those teeth and can lead to muscle imbalances which in turn can lead to headaches.
There’s also a tendency to choose a smaller variety of easier-to-eat foods when teeth are gone. Over time, this can affect your nutritional status, which can have negative effects on your health.
Replacing missing teeth, therefore, is as much a health issue as it is a cosmetic issue.
The standard approach for many decades to replacing a missing tooth was a dental bridge. In the last 10 – 15 years, dental implants have emerged as the more durable and stable option to replace missing teeth.
Dr. Anderson can determine whether your missing teeth will be best replace by a dental bridge or by dental implants. To schedule a consultation, contact our Virginia Beach, VA practice today at 757-932-6856.
